Senior Network Engineer

Contract (1.5 years)

Frisco, TX or Overland Park, KS (Hybrid)

Our Fortune 100 telecom client is hiring a Senior Network Engineer to join their Business Operations Surveillance Support team. This position acts as the main liaison between our client and vendors, handling technical escalations and managing production network issues while delivering solutions to system and end-user problems. It offers SME-level support across various disciplines, overseeing the design, validation, testing, and operational acceptance of new nodes, platforms, or services in Voice, Data, Messaging, and Mobile Internet networks.

Responsibilities

  • Support end-to-end production network and solutions design review, validation, testing, and operations acceptance for new or expanded nodes/platforms and services across Voice, Data, Messaging, and Mobile Internet networks.
  • Perform diagnostic investigations into complex network issues impacting customers, identifying and resolving root causes.
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and advice to engineers involved in diagnosing, troubleshooting, testing, and operating the network.
  • Evaluate and report on design, reliability, and maintenance issues to relevant design or vendor organizations, recommending improvements to enhance customer experience and long-term service reliability.
  • Conduct expert-level diagnostic investigations of customer-impacting network issues using professional concepts.
  • Identify technical development opportunities for engineers, developing and implementing technical training programs as necessary.
  • Analyze design, reliability, and maintenance issues, providing improvement recommendations to relevant vendor organizations.
  • Serve as the primary interface between our client and vendors for technical escalation and problem management related to production network issues and system solutions for end-users.
  • Undertake assignments requiring considerable initiative and judgment with minimal instruction for daily tasks and general guidance for new assignments.

Requirements

  • 7 years of experience as a Senior Network Engineer, specializing in enterprise network design and management.
  • Expertise in telephony protocols including SIP, SDP, RTP, H.248, and SS7 ISUP.
  • Profound understanding of end-to-end network architecture, nodes, and interfaces across RAN and Core networks (IMS, EPC, Charging, Provisioning).
  • Familiarity with multiple RAN and Core technologies such as 5G, LTE, VoNR, and VoLTE.
  • Direct experience with charging policy design, implementation, and troubleshooting, including online and offline charging systems.
  • Working knowledge of the Universal Subscriber Database (USD), including integration and operational support within core networks.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Core network protocols like DIAMETER, GTP, DNS, and ENUM.
  • Skilled in analyzing voice call flows and diagnosing network issues using complex network traces.
  • Proficiency in inter-carrier call routing, peering, trunking, and network analytics including STIR/SHAKEN.
  • Ability to collaborate with internal cross-functional technology teams and external partners on complex network issues.
  • Experience working directly with external customers including enterprise, government, and wholesale clients.
  • Familiarity with a variety of network troubleshooting tools like NetScout, Wireshark, and RAN tools.
