Skillset: Production Planner - Machine Shop

Location: Briggs, TX

Duration: Direct placement

Compensation Range : $90,000-$115,000

Production Planner (Level 3) – Machine Shop

This is a multifaceted planning role that encompasses:

• Demand Planning: Forecasting based on program needs (e.g., quarterly demand cycles).
• Production Planning & Control: Ensuring timely material availability and production readiness.
• Inventory Management: Managing inventory levels, reorder points, and material flow.
• The planner acts as the right hand to the Director of the Machine Shop, physically embedded with the team, and is responsible for ensuring production starts on time and materials are available.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Experience & Background

• 8–15 years of relevant experience in production planning, inventory management, or supply chain.
• Strong background in operations-side planning (not just supply chain).
• Experience in machine shop environments (especially with metallics or aerospace components).
• Familiarity with mixed production environments (not high-volume semiconductor-style).

Preferred Companies

• SpaceX – High-performance operations.
• Pharmaceutical companies – Excellent inventory discipline.
• Blue Origin – Less preferred.
• NASA Goddard – Known for rapid refurbishment cycles (e.g., Falcon rockets in 3 days).

Key Responsibilities

• 20% Demand Planning: Forecasting based on program inputs.
• 70% Production Planning: Scheduling, material readiness, and execution.
• 10% Tactical Execution: Unblocking issues, resolving shortages, and supporting production teams.

Core Competencies

2. Master Scheduling & Inventory Management
3. ERP/MRP Systems (e.g., implementation, optimization)
4. Data Analytics: SQL, Power BI, Excel
5. Operations Knowledge: Deep understanding of capacity planning, item master, reorder rules

Tools & Systems

• ERP/MRP: Experience implementing or improving systems.
• SQL: Writing queries for data analysis.
• Power BI: Visualizing KPIs and planning metrics.
• Custom Tools: Example – “Bombinator” (tool to compare BOM vs. demand).

Key Metrics & KPIs

• On-Time Start Rate: Ensuring production begins as scheduled.
• Material Availability: Readiness of all required components.
• Inventory Accuracy: Managing reorder points and min/max levels.
