Job Summary

The People & Culture (P&C) Specialist is a vital role that ensures smooth, efficient and compliant administration of employee benefits, payroll operations and system integrations for a 160-person company spread across the United States. The role is a trusted partner and expert for both employees and vendors, supporting critical processes, enhancing the employee experience and maintaining organizational compliance.

This role bridges payroll and people functions, fostering collaboration across departments and driving continuous improvement. By owning key responsibilities – notably benefits management and tax reporting – you directly contribute to reducing organizational risk, enhancing service delivery, and supporting a culture where employees are valued and empowered.

The Specialist role also comes with the opportunity to grow as the People & Culture function matures, with potential for increased responsibility in policy administration, talent management, employee engagement, compensation, business partnering and HR systems.

Responsibilities & Duties

Benefits Administration

  • Serve as the day-to-day point of contact for benefit vendors and external service support teams
  • Reconcile benefit vendor bills and payments, ensuring accurate and timely processing
  • Manage the out-of-town living (OTL) and relocation processes
  • Oversee ongoing benefit changes and employee enrollments

Payroll Operations & Compliance

  • Ensure timesheet accuracy and follow-up with managers and employees as needed
  • Support monthly and semi-monthly payroll close processes
  • Serve as backup for payroll processing to maintain business continuity
  • Conduct quarterly and year-end payroll tax reporting, including federal, state, and union requirements
  • Review and reconcile Dayforce tax reports on a regular basis
  • Manage tax account registrations and reporting for the Department of Labor and Bureau of Labor Statistics

System Integration & Support

  • Act as the primary liaison for Dayforce file integration, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Identify and implement automation where possible to increase efficiency and the overall employee experience
  • Provide support during system outages and open enrollment periods
  • Provide People & Culture support as needed, especially for helpdesk escalations
  • Assist with onboarding and offboarding processes, ensuring a positive and compliant experience for new hires and departing employees
  • Maintain personnel records and ensure data integrity within HRIS systems
  • Contribute to policy development, documentation, and communication
  • Support performance management cycles and training coordination
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding HR policies, benefits, and payroll

Background and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or 4 years equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of experience in payroll, benefits administration, or an HR business partner or generalist role
  • Familiarity with HR and payroll systems (Dayforce experience strongly preferred) and benefits platforms
  • General understanding of payroll tax reporting, compliance, and benefits regulations (COBRA, DOL, etc.)
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships across teams and with external partners
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including SharePoint, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion
  • Demonstrated initiative in process improvement and cross-functional collaboration
