Job Description

Position Overview

The Stamford JCC is seeking an experienced and passionate Kuriansky Fitness Studio Coordinator to oversee, enhance, and deliver our studio fitness programming. This role is pivotal in transforming our current offerings into a best-in-class boutique fitness experience comparable to premium studios like Orangetheory, Xponential Fitness, and SolidCore. The ideal candidate will bring significant expertise in boutique fitness environments, particularly in Pilates reformer instruction, along with a proven track record of building and sustaining vibrant fitness communities.

Primary Responsibilities

Program Development and Management

  • Evaluate current class offerings and implement strategic improvements to create a comprehensive menu of studio fitness experiences.
  • Lead the development, launch, and growth of a new reformer Pilates program, including curriculum design and implementation.
  • Introduce and cultivate high-quality, popular fitness formats including Core, Pilates, Yoga, Zumba, Cycling, TRX, and HIIT.
  • Ensure studio programming aligns with and complements our existing strength and conditioning group exercise classes.
  • Create and maintain effective class schedules that optimize member participation and instructor utilization.
  • Track usage statistics and member feedback to continuously refine offerings.
  • Ensure all fitness classes meet national quality and safety standards.

Instruction and Coaching

  • Teach a minimum of 10 classes but up to 15 studio fitness classes weekly, demonstrating excellence in instruction and member engagement.
  • Provide safe, motivating, and effective workouts for participants of all fitness levels.
  • Create personalized workout routines that improve muscular endurance, flexibility, and cardiovascular health.
  • Instruct members on proper use of equipment and exercise techniques to ensure safety and maximize results.
  • Participate in and support special fitness events and workshops.

Team Development and Leadership

  • Recruit, interview, audition, and hire qualified fitness instructors who meet or exceed industry standards.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate fitness instructors through formal programs and ongoing feedback.
  • Conduct regular instructor meetings to ensure consistent quality and communication.
  • Create a collaborative, energetic, and supportive team environment that fosters instructor growth and retention.
  • Lead by example in delivering exceptional member experiences and adhering to best practices.

Member Experience and Engagement

  • Build strong relationships with members to understand their fitness goals and needs.
  • Create a welcoming, inclusive, and motivating environment for all participants regardless of fitness level.
  • Implement effective strategies for member retention and community building.
  • Respond promptly to member inquiries and feedback regarding classes and instructors.
  • Monitor class quality and consistency to ensure exceptional member experiences.

Operations and Administration

  • Maintain clean, well-organized, and properly equipped studio spaces.
  • Coordinate with the director on schedule changes and instructor substitutions.
  • Develop and implement effective marketing strategies for studio programs.
  • Submit timely reports on program metrics, attendance, and growth.
  • Comply with all Stamford JCC policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Required Experience and Certifications

  • 3+ years of experience teaching in boutique fitness environments, with demonstrated expertise across multiple modalities.
  • Formal training and certification in Pilates reformer instruction (comprehensive certification preferred).
  • Current fitness certification from a nationally recognized organization (ACE, NASM, ACSM, NSCA, AFAA, ISSA, NETA, or equivalent).
  • Current CPR/AED certification.
  • Proven experience in fitness program development and implementation.
  • Experience in recruiting, training, and leading teams of fitness instructors.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Comprehensive understanding of exercise science, biomechanics, and proper technique across multiple fitness modalities.
  • Deep knowledge of reformer equipment, accessories, and various props used in Pilates and other studio formats.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively instruct and motivate diverse groups.
  • Strong organizational and administrative abilities, including scheduling and program management.
  • Proficiency in fitness management software and standard office applications.

Compensation and Schedule

  • Base Salary Range: $30,000 - $45,000
  • Base position includes 30 hours per week (combination of class instruction and administrative duties).
  • Opportunity for additional income through private Pilates reformer training and small group classes on a per session basis.
  • Flexible schedule required, including evenings and weekends to accommodate member needs.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to demonstrate exercises and techniques properly for extended periods.
  • Capable of safely moving and adjusting fitness equipment weighing up to 60 pounds.
  • Stamina to teach multiple fitness classes daily while maintaining energy and enthusiasm.
  • Physical capability to spot and assist participants with proper form and technique.
