Job Description

About Rare Candy

Rare Candy is revolutionizing the $25B trading card industry as the only community marketplace 100% dedicated to trading card games. We empower collectors to buy, sell, and showcase Pokémon, MTG, Lorcana, and more—backed by an AI-powered card scanner, data‑rich collection tools, and jaw‑dropping drops. We grew almost 30x last year and aren’t slowing down!

We're a team of passionate card collectors and players on a mission to create the definitive platform where TCG enthusiasts find community, authenticity, and seamless commerce in one place.

The Role

We're looking for a growth leader to spearhead our mission of growing to one million collectors worldwide. Content has proven to be our most impactful acquisition channel and we are looking for an experienced professional to own and scale this engine dramatically. The ideal candidate will bring both startup growth expertise and authentic passion for trading cards to help us reach our millionth user and profitability in the next 12 months.

You'll be responsible for driving the bulk of our new user acquisition and your strategy will directly impact the company’s future success and valuation.

What Success Looks Like

  • First 90 days : Design and launch our first viral content series, build a measurable SEO foundation driving 15K monthly organic visits, and establish our creator partnership program
  • By end of year one : Scale to a content engine driving 50K+ new monthly signups with a clear attribution model and industry-leading CAC

What You'll Do

  • Own content‑led growth strategy :** Work with the co-founders on overall growth & channel strategy, helping set and owning quarterly OKRs for key channels
  • Architect the roadmap: Create keyword clusters for top 500 trading card search terms, develop creator briefs that consistently outperform platform averages, establish optimal publish cadence, and maintain a 10+ experiment backlog.
  • Foster & activate community: Lead our efforts and strategy around community activation via channels like events, livestreams, competitive play, on-platform challenges, games & more!
  • Operationalize production : Manage our growing team of internal editors, freelancers, and influencer partnerships; source compelling user stories & card‑collector narratives that reinforce our brand.
  • Dial in distribution : Implement paid boosts, referral hooks, and in‑app surfacing to convert content viewers into registered collectors with industry leading conversion rates.
  • Instrument performance : Build comprehensive dashboards for CAC/LTV by channel, track activation and retention cohorts; A/B iterate relentlessly to find the 20% of content driving 80% of results.
  • Leverage AI tools : Deploy programmatic AI-enhanced workflows for ideation, outline generation, and metadata at scale—without sacrificing quality and keeping humans a key part of the process.
  • Partner with cross‑functional teams : Work seamlessly with product, engineering, design, operations, and execs to bake growth plans into everything we do.

A Day in Your Life at Rare Candy

You start the day diving into performance metrics from yesterday's content drops, spotting a promising trend in our Pokémon card grading videos and adjusting our content calendar to incorporate that learning. By midday, you're in a quick sync with our product team to polish the marketing plan for our new trading feature. Afternoon includes a call with a top TCG creator to finalize a partnership, followed by collaborating with our data team to refine attribution models.

You Might Be a Fit If

  • You have real hobby nerd cred (TCG, comics, video games, toys are most relevant) and genuinely light up when discussing the latest sets or meta shifts.
  • 6+ years in growth/content at a consumer marketplace, gaming, or collector brand.
  • Proven track record building a multimodal content machine (SEO + video + UGC) that demonstrably scaled traffic and revenue (we want to hear the numbers!).
  • Fluent with using data to measure impact and validate hypotheses, with experience setting up proper attribution systems.
  • You've negotiated influencer rev‑share or affiliate deals and can speak both creator and CFO languages fluently.
  • Comfortable being hands‑on with AI tooling for outlines, thumbnails, and social copy, but know when the human touch is essential.

Why Join Us Now

  • Shape the voice and growth trajectory of the fastest‑growing TCG marketplace—before we hit the mainstream (and our first million users).
  • Join our founding team that includes veterans from YouTube, Pokemon Go, Twitch, Zola, and Thumbtack bringing e-commerce and collectible expertise together.
  • Experience our direct, high‑trust culture where passion for trading cards is in our DNA (we actually practice what we preach).
  • Flexible PTO, comprehensive health benefits, annual "grail card" stipend ($1,000 to expand your collection).
  • Quarterly team retreats that blend strategy sessions with epic card tournaments.
  • Direct impact on company valuation as we approach profitability and our Series A.

Ready to Level Up?

We're moving quickly and aim to fill this role by June 15th.

Rare Candy is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate individuality—from Pikachu collectors to Magic pros—and are committed to building an inclusive team.
