Applied AI Engineer

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Applied AI Engineer with Software Engineering background to join our AI initiative team, focusing on the assessment, development, and implementation of cutting-edge AI solutions. This role will be instrumental in evaluating various AI tools and technologies, making strategic build vs. buy decisions, and developing robust AI-powered applications using modern development practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy AI-powered applications using Java and Python
• Implement and optimize Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems
• Assess and evaluate AI tools, frameworks, and platforms for organizational needs
• Make strategic recommendations on build vs. buy decisions for AI solutions
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate AI capabilities into existing systems
• Develop and maintain scalable AI services using cloud-native architectures
• Research and prototype emerging AI technologies and frameworks
• Ensure best practices in AI development, testing, and deployment

Required Technical Skills

Programming Languages & Frameworks

• Java and/or Python : 5+ years of experience in at least one language
• Java: Spring Framework (Spring Boot, Spring Security, Spring Data)
• Python: FastAPI or Flask frameworks
• Strong understanding of object-oriented programming and design patterns

AI/ML Frameworks & Tools (Required)

• RAG Implementation : MUST HAVE - Hands-on experience building and optimizing RAG pipelines
• At least one of the following :
• LangChain : Experience building AI applications and chains
• LangGraph : Knowledge of graph-based AI workflows
• LlamaIndex : Experience with data indexing and retrieval systems

Development Tools (Required - at least one)

• Cursor OR Windsurf : Proficiency with AI-powered development environments

AWS Cloud Platform (Required)

• AWS Bedrock : Experience with managed foundation models and AI services
• LLM Fine-tuning : Hands-on experience fine-tuning large language models
• AI Guardrails : Implementation of AI safety and content filtering mechanisms
• Prompt Engineering : Advanced prompt design and optimization techniques
• Additional AWS services: EC2, S3, Lambda, EKS, RDS, SQS, SageMaker

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 5-7 years of software development experience
• E-commerce domain experience strongly preferred
• Proven track record of delivering scalable, production-ready applications
• Experience with agile development methodologies
• History of working on AI/ML projects in production environments

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Understanding of microservices architecture
• CI/CD pipeline development and maintenance
• Knowledge of vector databases and embedding technologies
• Experience with API design and development (REST, GraphQL)
• Understanding of data engineering concepts and ETL processes
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools
