Russell Tobin Scientific is seeking an Applications Engineer for a well-known materials science company in St. Paul, MN.

Job Title: Applications Engineer

Location: St. Paul, MN (on-site)

Job Type: Contract

Length: 12-Months

Hours: 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM (some flexibility between 7:30–8:00 AM start)

Travel: travel up to 4 days per week (50% travel early on).

Pay Rate: $40 - $50 per hour

Responsibilities

• Support the co-registration and transportation business group as an Applications Engineer.
• Work on new product introduction (NPI) programs involving new reflective sheeting and digital print film for license plates.
• Hands-on equipment work including digital printers (e.g., HP), electromechanical systems, and reflective materials.
• Run field trials with customers, troubleshoot and implement sheeting solutions.
• Develop technical literature and documentation.
• Collaborate with NPI teams, customer service, and engineering.
• Frequent communication with customers and internal cross-functional teams.
• Travel to customer sites across the U.S. (and some in Canada).
• May include work at correctional facility locations

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electromechanical preferred).
• Willingness to travel up to 4 days per week (50% travel early on).
• Experience or strong understanding of mechanical/electromechanical systems.
• Process knowledge in production or manufacturing environments.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
• Strong problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills.
• Comfort working with and around equipment.
• Ability to work on-site 5 days/week.
• Candidates must cover initial travel expenses (reimbursed by agency).

Preferences:

• Experience with digital printing technologies, printing sheeting, or license plate manufacturing.
• Background in reflective sheeting or film materials.
• Experience working with customers on new product implementation.
• Structural mechanics skillset.
• Science/Engineering background.
• Previous internships or work experience (for new grads).
